I am an editor, indexer, and proofreader with over seven years of experience and would love to work with you

My specialties are spiritual books, non-fiction, and memoirs, but I also work on text books, websites, blog posts, etc. In addition, I can help with other publication tasks, like formatting and cover design. Contact me and let’s start making your book a reality.

My Services

  • Copyediting

Copyediting involves reviewing your text to enhance clarity, coherence, and overall quality. This includes:

    - correcting any spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors

    - ensuring uniformity in style, tone, and formatting throughout the document

    - identifying and revising unclear or wordy sentences to improve readability

    - applying style guidelines (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style) as requested.

  • Proofreading

When I proofread your manuscript, I focus on any remaining errors or typos.

    This includes:

    - checking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues

    - assuring the consistent use of fonts and equal formatting throughout, including headings, tables, photo captions, etc.

    - basic fact checking.

  • Formatting

    Are you self-publishing your book?

I can help with the preparation of your manuscript for paperback and e-book publication.

    This may involve

    - creating a table of contents

    - indexing

    - manuscript formatting for print and/or digital publication.

  • German Localization

I am bilingual in English and German and offer all services in both languages.

In addition, I specialize in localizing AI translated book manuscripts. Translation software has improved and is on average 90% accurate, but it still takes a human professional like me to render a text truly readable for a native audience.

  • Indexing

A well-written index greatly enhances your book since it provides relevant access points into your text for your readers.

I am trained to write professional back-of-book indexes for print books—something that cannot be done by AI!

Feedback from Clients

  • Family Life in West Africa

    Dear Elisabeth,

I am very excited by the creation of my new book FAMILY LIFE IN WEST AFRICA, based on my articles published in The Guardian newspaper. You made a very good selection of these 50 articles, and I think that the book reads very well.  I will certainly recommend you to other journalists and writers who need advice on how to put a book together and get it published.

    Kind regards,

    Robert Lacville

  • Peace is Possible

I am very grateful, Elisabeth, for the marvelous job you did for me in publishing my book PEACE IS POSSIBLE.  The cover design is great, I like the colors you chose, and I remember that you actually also chose the title (although I created the sub-title).  You are more than a copy editor and proof reader: you are a One-Woman Publishing House!   Thank you for the great work.

How long does it take to edit a book or to write an index?

This depends on the length of the manuscript, the level of work involved, and my availability. On average, editing/proofreading takes one week while indexing requires two or three weeks.

Please reach out early so that I can put you on my schedule.

Why should I have an index for my book?

A professional indexer carefully reads the entire manuscript and then carefully distills the main ideas and concepts discussed in the book.

A well-written index greatly enhances the value of a book as it provides a service to the reader.

Writing an index takes training and experience; it is a task that cannot be done by AI.

How much do the services cost?

I am happy to give you a quote depending on the services requested. Editing/proofreading is usually based on word count while indexing and formatting services are determined by length and complexity of a manuscript.

For editing/proofreading I am happy to do a 500-word sample of your book to see how we can work together.

What is the difference between copyediting and proofreading?

Copyediting focuses on clarity, flow, and readability in addition to grammar.

Proofreading zeros in on accuracy, consistency, and format as well as previously overlooked grammar issues and typos.

The two tasks often go hand-in-hand, especially in self-publishing.
